Raag Bihag — The Romance That Came Before the Longing
Bihag is so often spoken of as a raga of longing. And it is, of course. But longing, I have come to believe, is a rather particular kind of luxury. One cannot long for what one has never known. Before there is separation, there must have been a meeting; before there is yearning, there must have been tenderness; and before the heart learns the exquisite ache of absence, it must first have known the intoxication of presence.
