If you'd like to learn more about this recording session, please read the video description for "Perpetual Terminal" & "Societal Bile," also on my channel.

This video deviates from the album track-sequence and groups these two tunes for a couple reasons. Firstly, we're playing both in our upcoming European tour with Heriot, Sylosis, and Fit For An Autopsy (click here for more info). Secondly, both of these songs feature extended portions of improvisation that I first tracked during pre-production, and later transcribed and learned for the record.

  • Both tunes also emerged from the same pre-pro session, at Ivakota Studios in Washington, D.C., in summer '21.
  • "One With the Void"—tentatively titled 'Meditations,' the opening lyric—was presented to me first, with a general direction of, "think rock, think The Cure!"
  • I came up with the verse pattern, then quickly settled on a theme in the B sections, with the 16th-triplet double kicks every other bar, flanked by other fill-ins.
  • "Goddess..." sprouted from an old acoustic guitar demo that Schleibaum had. He wanted a heavy build-up to follow, and I came up with the accent pattern in 6.
  • The outro was improvised during pre-pro, and little tweaking was done in preparation for the album.

Overall, it was a session wherein lots happened organically that made it to the finish line.
