About this concert:
For over four decades, Jon Cleary has brought his dynamic, soulful piano virtuosity and mellifluous tenor to self-penned tales of everyday life in his adopted home.

Inspired by the idiosyncratic stylings of James Booker, Professor Longhair, Dr. John, Roosevelt Sykes, Huey “Piano” Smith, and other New Orleans piano greats, Cleary developed a master’s touch on the keyboard that led to work with a procession of NOLA stalwarts from Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Snooks Eaglin, and Earl “Trick Bag” King to Johnny Adams and Jessie “Ooh Poo Pah Doo” Hill.

He gained international recognition for his decade-long tenure with singer and songwriting legend Bonnie Raitt, who describes Cleary as "the 8th wonder of the world,” and has recorded and/or performed with a who's-who of blues and rock giants including Taj Mahal, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, and Eric Burdon.

The pianist won the 2016 GRAMMY for Best Regional Roots Album in recognition of his eighth release as a leader, GoGo Juice, and appeared on-screen in multiple episodes of the HBO series Treme as well as director Michael Murphy’s 2005 documentary “Make It Funky!”, tracing the history of New Orleans music.
