Hampson, Bernstein, WP - Mahler: Rückert Lieder: "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen" (Excerpt)
We celebrate Mahler on his birthday today, 7 July (1860), with a song from his Rückert Lieder cycle - a cycle he began composing also on a 7 July, in 1901 at his lakeside villa in Maiernigg.
The baritone Thomas Hampson collaborates with Leonard Bernstein and the Wiener Philharmoniker in a performance at the Musikverein in Vienna from 1991.
Watch out for the close thematic and emotional link between this particular song "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen" and the famous Adagietto from Mahler'
