VOCES8: The 23rd Psalm by Bobby McFerrin
Bobby McFerrin's 23rd Psalm is one of his most beloved choral works, appearing on his 1990 album Medicine Music. A gentle and deeply personal reimagining of Psalm 23, the piece is dedicated to his mother and is notable for its use of feminine pronouns for God, reflecting McFerrin's desire to express the nurturing, unconditional love he associated with both motherhood and the divine.
The music combines simplicity, warmth, and extraordinary vocal craftsmanship, transforming one of the most familiar passages in scripture into something intimate and new.
