Tony Macalpine - "Edge of Insanity" THEME & variations
T - MAC...!!! As per usual I concocted my own condensed version of this track making sure all the important parts and passages are accounted for.
I tried molding the whole into a form which in classical music they would call a rondo: a constantly repeated main theme which is interspersed with variations and other themes.
0:00 = main theme (full version)
0:32 = variation 1 (introduction of new theme)
0:51 = main theme (repeat/shortened version)
1:07 = variation 2 (introduction of new theme)
1:31 = main theme (repeat/shortened version)
Macalpine's classical passages were always a cut above those of his neo-classical colleagues and this one's no different:
variation 1
----------------
0:32 = exquisitely worked out bridge (actually leading into the solo in the full version of this song) :
starting off with A-Dm chords modulating to B-Em with Tony playing small and large arpeggio shapes intermingled with scale passages and even some chromatic colouring.
This is followed by another modulation A7 to Dm and yet another from B-Em and all this within the space of just ten bars.
variation 2
----------------
1:07 = lovely classical theme outlining the following chords:
Am - G#dim7/A - Em/A - F#dim7/A - Dm/A - E
Stoked!
