"Darkness" by Torun Eriksen
Torun Eriksen is a singer-songwriter and composer who has been active in the Scandinavian jazz scene for over two decades. She has released seven solo albums with the Norwegian label Jazzland Recordings, founded by Bugge Wesseltoft.
- Her debut album "Glittercard" was released in 2003 in Norway and internationally a year later.
- The Norwegian press described her as an "impressive presence" (Terje Mosnes, Dagbladet) and "the jazz voice of the year" (Helge Helgheim, Dagsavisen).
Torun Eriksen's music is characterized by intimacy and clarity. Her songs move between jazz, pop, folk, chamber music, and poetry, without being tied to any particular genre.
- Her compositions are marked by finesse, with sparse but effective arrangements that open up space for her words and emotions.
- Each song is a poetic microcosm, sometimes melancholic, sometimes hopeful, always imbued with a deep humanism.
With her latest album "Fastlandet" (Festland), Torun Eriksen explores themes of rooting, orientation, and seeking stability in a constantly changing world.
- Her texts are observations of everyday life, reflections on proximity, memory, and self-location.
Torun Eriksen is also a professor of singing and songwriting at the University of Agder, a testament to her deep connection to musical mediation and the next generation of artists.
In 2024, she was honored with two prestigious awards for her musical work: the Musikerpreis des Jazz Centers Südnorwegen and the Radka Toneff Memorial Prize, one of Norway's most significant awards for female singers in improvisational music.
