Linear vs Non-linear…
Go Headphones if you can - seriously!
A lot of the patterns and shapes I write are around simple concepts - eg. 5 notes that switch between linear & non-linear, as an example.
- I set rules on myself, find a 'nonsensical' pattern I like, then repeat it over and over to drill it in, until I find its 'groove' and/or 'flow.'
- Then, I find numbers I like to play with, around that pattern or shape. Like this here... 1, 2, 2, 1, 3, 1, 5 etc
The goal for me always, is to pull from my OWN sources, and write in a way that I find original and interesting, and hopefully jarring in nature, as that seems to be where the unique ideas are.
This here has early Chris Pennie vibes about it. I'm a massive Pennie fan. I can hear the guitar already!
