Pablo Garibay, Mexican guitarist, praised as “phenomenal” by the General-Anzeiger in Bonn, has established himself as a leading figure in the classical guitar world.
Known for his pioneering interpretations of Latin American music and iconic concertos by Rodrigo, Villa-Lobos, Ponce, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, and others, Garibay has performed extensively across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and beyond.
He has premiered works by contemporary composers such as Hebert Vázquez, Tomás Barreiro, Ernesto Garcia de León, and Mateo Barreiro, showcasing a deep commitment to expanding the classical guitar repertoire.
As a concerto soloist, Garibay made his professional debut with the Orquesta Filarmónica de la Ciudad de México and has since performed with prestigious ensembles, including the Buffalo Philharmonic under JoAnn Falletta, the Dortmunder Philharmoniker, the Orquesta Ciudad de Almería, and the South African Chamber Orchestra, where he premiered Ponce’s Concierto del Sur in Pretoria.
His artistry has brought him to major international festivals across Russia, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Mexico, and the United States.
Garbay’s exceptional talent has earned him numerous international awards, including first prizes at the Francisco Tárrega International Guitar Competition in Spain, the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition in the U.S., and the René Bartoli Competition in France.
He holds degrees from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar in Germany, further solidifying his artistic foundation.
A prolific recording artist, Garibay’s albums, praised by Naxos’s Norbert Kraft as “exceptional,” feature works ranging from Dowland and Ravel to Ponce.
His collaborations with labels such as Urtext and Fleur de Son Classics have garnered critical acclaim. Upcoming projects include an album with URTEXT and the OJUEM, under the baton of Gustavo Rivero Weber, where he will present Ponce’s Concierto del Sur and Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Concerto in D Major, Op. 99.
In addition to his performance career, Garibay is dedicated to education and innovation, exemplified by his online platform, Guitarlabonline, where he offers courses to inspire the next generation of classical guitarists.
